Burgers and Rodeo

At the rodeoI call this the “I’m not happy Mom is sticking a camera right in my face at the rodeo” photo. Why do parents take photos like this? Ugh!

The DISGUSTING shirt you can see in the background belongs to Dad. What kind of person wears a shirt like that in public? My Dad.

We were at the opening night of the 2013 rodeo season at Cowtown Rodeo on Saturday. There is rodeo every Saturday night from now until Labor Day.

Cowtown has a restaurant that is open through the week that has a “Cowzilla” burger challenge. If you want a smaller burger there is Lapp’s Olympia Dairy Bar just down the road.

The rodeo and burgers are how my blog got its name. Both of them are a big American tradition. I love my burgers and I love my rodeo!

Hands Free Whopper

The Pale Rider at Darkhorse Saloon

Pale Rider BurgerI had a pretty good day at school (grades… awesome… I rock!) so Mom and Dad took me back to Darkhorse Saloon in Bel Air.

Last time I was there was back in December 2012. Then I had the Roadhouse Burger, but this time I wanted to try something new. Dad dared me to try something that I wouldn’t usually have. (Does he think my burger reviews are boring? Ugh!) There were so many good things on the menu that it was difficult to choose.

I ordered the Pale Rider.  That’s a blackened burger served with bacon, melted blue cheese, lettuce and tomato. Yes, folks… BLUE CHEESE! (Is that exciting enough for you, Dad?)

The blue cheese was tangy. It would NOT be my first choice for a burger next time. I’m not saying that it was a bad burger exactly… but a mountain of blue cheese is too much for this kid. Maybe it’s a good choice for an adult who likes blue cheese?

But I tried it. Nobody can call me a coward.

I award this burger a “no-score” (that’s a shout out to the rodeo fans!). The penalty is on Dad for daring me to choose a burger that I wasn’t ready for.

Japanese Spaghetti Panda Burger

Contains no panda meat. Hopefully. I don’t know because I can’t read Japanese.

A pile of spaghetti in tomato sauce on top of a burger patty, fried egg optional, with an image of 2 pandas burned into the top of the bun.

Here’s the video.

TGIF New York Cheddar & Bacon Burger

TGIFMom and Dad took me to TGI Friday’s to sample their Black Angus burgers. Some people call it TGIF. Dad calls it something else. His is rude. I’m not allowed to repeat it.

Anyway… burgers!

I ordered the New York Cheddar & Bacon Burger which comes with New York cheddar cheese, applewood-smoked bacon, fried onion strings and something called a “sweet chow-chow relish.” I asked for the relish on the side. You can’t be too careful with mystery relishes.

I think that this burger was frozen and it was very expensive for being a frozen patty. It was average – not great, but not totally awful. The bacon was very crispy but the onion strings were tasteless. The chow-chow relish just didn’t look appetizing.

I award this burger a 5 out of 10.

Fridays is a good place for groups of people, but the food is just average.

Charles Ramsey Hamburger inspired by Cleveland kidnap hero

Cleveland’s lovin’ it.

Charles Ramsey, the Cleveland neighbor who helped rescue three captive women, may find that in the future, more lofty honors and thankful praise will descend upon him.

As of now, though, there’s the Charles Ramsey Hamburger.
