Great milkshakes at Z-Burger, but not so good onion rings

I was feeling “blah” and totally bored (Dog Days of Summer?) so Dad drove me down to White Marsh and we went to Z-Burger.

Z-Burger is like a Five Guys or a Gino’s or a In-N-Out. I think Z-Burger is a local chain (DC-Batimore area) with just a few restaurants. But it’s kinda the same as the others.

Dad says these places are still “fast food” but a little bit fancier and with slightly better ingredients. Then he usually complains about how much they cost! Hey, Dad… thats why I let YOU pay 🙂

I ordered a single cheeseburger with lettuce and tomato. Side order of half fries, half onion rings. And a strawberry milk shake.

The burger was OK. Not great. Not awful. Just average. I would award it a score of 5.5 out of 10.

The fries were good. They were nice and crispy. The onion rings… yuck… not so good! They had too much batter. I threw most of them away because they were really not good to eat.

The milkshake was made with ice cream and this is something that Z-Burger does really well. We sometime stop here just to get milkshakes. You might have to wait a long time on a hot day, but they are GOOD!

I would recommend Z-Burger if you are shopping in the White Marsh area. The burgers are OK. But don’t get the onion rings.

Dad got take-out from Gino’s

Gino's take outDad was out buying groceries and he brought home burgers from Gino’s.

He got me a single with cheese, lettuce and tomato. Oh… and a huge french fries.

If Mom is reading this… Dad says he ate a salad.

If Mom is NOT reading this… he had a cheeseburger too.

Gino’s is one of my favorite burgers in Harford County. I gave the Gino’s Giant a score of 8.5 out of 10 last year. The Giant is great, but I usually order a single because it’s easier for a kid to eat. I always get my single with cheese, lettuce and tomato. It is a pretty good cheeseburger.

I award the Gino’s single cheeseburger a score of 8 out of 10. If there is a Gino’s in your neighborhood then you should tell your Dad to bring one home for you.

Gino’s Giant Burger is my new Aberdeen, MD favorite!

Gino's AberdeenGino’s opened in Aberdeen today!

It is located at 1013 Beard’s Hill Rd, just down from Olive Tree (awesome local Italian restaurant) and across the street from Tractor Supply Co. (where we buy our dog food). It’s in a brand new building and it’s a great location.

There is a paved area outside that looks like it will be used for seating in the summer (today’s temperature was 12 °F which is TOO COLD!). I’m looking forward to sitting outside on a summer evening drinking strawberry malts.

Strawberry shakeSpeaking of strawberry shakes… that’s the first thing I ordered. It was thick and creamy and came with a fantastic straw that didn’t collapse under pressure. There was also a long spoon so that I could scoop out the last delicious drops from the bottom of the glass.

Dad ordered a vanilla malt. Mom will probably make him drink weak tea and organic spring water for the rest of the week. He didn’t have to order one. He could have said no. He has absolutely no willpower.

Gino's GiantI ordered a Gino’s Giant. It is Gino’s signature burger. There are 2 quarter pounder patties making it an amazing half pound burger! The patties are topped with American cheese, lettuce, pickles and “secret sauce.”

Want to know what’s in the secret sauce? I think all special/secret/signature sauces are pretty much the same aren’t they?

The burger was excellent! Super excellent! Super amazing excellent! I think it is officially the best burger in Aberdeen, Maryland! (Sorry, Mamies!) The cheese was nicely melted, there was not too much lettuce, the pickles were crisp, and there wasn’t too much sauce (I don’t like sloppy burgers!)

Dad did not order a burger. He was too busy pretending that his vanilla malt had zero calories. When he gets home Mom will make him eat a salad. It sucks to be old.

Fries & Onion RingsI ordered a mixed basket of french fries and onion rings.

The onion rings were fresh onion (not the mushed-up kind) and had a light coating of crumbs. They were seasoned with salt and pepper and were really yummy. You know those nasty cheap onion rings that seem like they’re all breadcrumbs with a tiny sliver of onion inside? These are NOT those. These were fantastic. Even Dad had some. In fact, he had a lot. About half. I’ll see if he admits that to Mom.

I award this burger a score of 8.5 out of 10. It was delicious.

If you’re in the Aberdeen, MD area then definitely stop by. (Actually… if you’re driving on I-95 in Maryland then Gino’s is just 5-minutes from Exit 85.)

Gino’s opens in Aberdeen on Wednesday

I am really, really, really looking forward to this! This is doubly good news to me as a burger fan & a Colts fan.

Gino’s Giants arrive in Aberdeen Wednesday

Baltimore Sun

After a 20-some year hiatus, the new Gino’s Burgers & Chicken announced Saturday it will (re-)open in Aberdeen this Wednesday, Jan. 23.

The fast-food restaurant, which includes a drive-through, will be one of two stores to open in the first building of the new Corner at Beards Hill shopping center, at Beards Hill Road and West Bel Air Avenue.

New Gino Marchetti burger restaurant opening soon!

Gino MarchettiThere is an article in the October/November edition of Harford’s Heart magazineEverybody Goes To Gino’s: Coming to 3 locations in Harford County.’

It talks about the arrival of Gino’s Burgers and Chicken restaurants in Harford County. There are 3 restaurants planned for the county. The first is being built in Aberdeen and will be open by the end of 2013. Gino’s is looking for 2 other locations in the county for 2013.

(I already broke this news in April!)

Gino’s was founded by former Baltimore Colt’s defensive end Gino Marchetti in 1959 and at one time there were 313 company-owned restaurants throughout the region. The old company was taken over in the 1980s and restaurants were either converted to Roy Rogers or closed.

The “new” Gino’s franchise in Maryland began with its new store in Towson, MD and the restaurant chain is gradually coming back to the area. There is a store in King of Prussia, PA where Gino Marchetii still works 3-4 days each week.

I am a Colts fan and a burger fan. I definitely want to visit the King of Prussia location!

Gino’s describes their food as “fast casual.” Your meal is made with fresh ingredients (no pink slime!) and brought to your table (so you don’t have to collect it from the counter). Jake’s Wayback has a similar setup, but at Five Guys you still have to collect your own food.

I am looking forward to Gino’s opening in Aberdeen. I can’t wait to try the Gino’s Giant burger (named after Gino) and the Ameche’s Power House burger (named after his restaurant partner, former Colts running back, Alan Ameche).

Gino and Alan both played in ‘The Greatest Game Ever Played’ (the 1958 NFL Championship Game). Johnny Unitas was named NFL MVP in that game. I wonder if he ever thought about opening a burger restaurant?

Happy National Burger Month Fellow Burger Dudes!

I wish I could eat a burger every day during National Burger Month but there is no way in heck my Mom would let me. Darn!

These are the Top 5 places I want to try during National Burger Month:
