I ate the 227th “Triple Triple” at Jake’s Wayback!

Jake’ Wayback serves a “Triple Triple” which is basically three triple cheeseburgers stuck together. Does that sound too much? Well, became the 227th person to order one at the Bel Air restaurant.

THIS THING WAS THE SIZE OF DAD’S HEAD! Although I was hoping it was going to be bigger. I had a single slice of lettuce and a single slice of tomato (salad!) and a large order of fries.

My awesome Triple Triple burger.

The Triple Triple was awesome in size, but I think you need to add more toppings to make the flavor interesting all the way through. I would choose grilled onions and Jake’s chipolte mayo. It also needed more lettuce and tomato. Honestly, it was bit bland with just a pile of meat and cheese.

But I was still number 227!

It’s official! I ate the 227th “Triple Triple” at Jake’s Wayback Burgers!

I would award this burger a score of 5 out of 10. It was a great size, but it was a bit bland.

I think next time I’ll order three separate triple burgers (extra buns, extra toppings) and invent that as my own challenge.

If you ask nicely they will make you last month’s “burger of the month” anyway

School was cancelled because of a “weather emergency” so I spent the morning at home studying for exams (only joking!) and tidying my room (seriously joking!). The ice storm turned into rain by midday so Dad drove me into Bel Air for a burger. We went to the Bel Air branch of Jake’s Wayback Burgers which I’ve been to several times before and enjoy very much.

I ordered the Brisket Burger which was last month’s (December 2013) “burger of the month.” If you ask really nicely then they’ll still make them for you. Dad says it doesn’t count as a secret menu. He says it’s just because they’re nice folks and I ask politely.

Jakes Brisket Burger

The Brisket Burger has two beef patties, American cheese, slices of smoked brisket, and Wayback Gold Sauce. The “gold sauce” tasted like a smokey mustard barbecue. It was a nice zesty topping. The slices of brisket were also smokey, like a barbecue brisket, not like the brisket my parents cook for Rosh Hashanah. (Dad just that’s a  braised brisket, not a BBQ brisket, so know we all know!) The burger patties were nice and juicy, just like you can always rely on at Jake’s.

I award this burger a score of 7.5 out of 10. It was an interesting taste combination and definitely above average (average score is 4-6 remember?) If you are at Jake’s when they have this as their burger of the month then you should try it. If you are at Jake’s and the month has already passed then you should just ask nicely 🙂

Best Burgers in Harford County 2012

Winner RibbonHere is my list of the best burgers in Harford County for 2012.

  1. Black Angus Cheeseburger at Sean Bolan’s, Bel Air.
  2. Roadhouse Burger at Darkhorse Saloon, Bel Air.
  3. Rootie Toot Burger at Mamie’s Cafe, Aberdeen.
  4. Western Burger at Magerks’s, Bel Air.
  5. Jake Burger at Jake’s Wayback, Abingdon.

All of these burgers scored an impressive 8 out of 10. I am looking forward to 2013 when I will get the chance to eat a whole bunch more burgers in Harford County. Who knows… I might even find a 9 out of 10!

A great “wayback” burger… and a whole bunch of swag!

I visited the new Jake’s Wayback Burgers in Bel Air, MD for lunch with Mom and Dad.

I have been to the Jake’s in Elkton, but the Bel Air location is new. Elkton is closer to where I go to school, but Bel Air is closer to where I live. It’s all Maryland – it’s all good!

I ordered the Jake Burger which has 2 “hand pattied, never frozen” burger patties. I customized my burger with American cheese (other options include bacon, chili, and extra cheese) and my old favorites lettuce & tomato (other options include onions, pickles, jalapenos, etc.). A side order of French fries and a strawberry milkshake completed my order.

Mom had her burger with A1 sauce. That’s her thing. I was surprised that she did not have mushrooms on her burger. Maybe next time, Mom. (Hint! Hint! We need to go again!)

Dad had his burger (yeah… Mom let him have a burger… but it was a little kids Junior size burger!) with grilled onions and mustard. And he wonders why his breath smells? Ugh!

One of the BEST parts of the visit was the amount of swag that they gave me in the store. They had free bumper stickers, pens, key fobs, and lanyards. I got the whole lot! I could decorate my bedroom with Jake’s Wayback swag!

Jake’s makes a good burger. My burger was cooked to a nice medium-well without much pink. The fries were nice and crisp. The strawberry milkshake was… er… milky… and… um… shaky, I guess. (Hey! This is a burger review! If you want a milkshake review then you start your own blog, buddy!) I award this an 8 out of 10. The restaurant is in a good location and if you live in Harford County you should definitely go and visit.

Juicy Jake’s Junior

After math camp today, Dad drove me up to Jake’s Wayback Burgers in Elkton, MD for lunch.

I had a “Junior” which is a single burger patty. You can also get a “Jake” (2 patties), a “Big Jake” (3 patties), and you can get turkey burgers or veggie burgers instead of beef.

Options for non-burger eaters (WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?) include chicken, hot dogs, grilled cheese, and salad. Check out their menu for details.

Because Jake’s served a single, a double, and a triple, Dad wondered if there was a “secret menu” like at In-N-Out Burger where you can add extra patties. Nice idea, Dad, but I don’t think Mom would appreciate you eating a 4×4.

Dad is on a diet. He is only supposed to eat burgers occasionally and he is only supposed to eat the smallest burger with the most salad toppings. Today I can report he had a small burger, no cheese, no sauces, no fries, no milkshake, and a liter of water. It sucks to be him.

I am not on a diet. I had the Junior, fries, and a strawberry shake. It rocks to be me!

Here is a photo of the burger patty. It is everything a burger patty should be. It is made from fresh beef (never frozen! no pink slime!), it is juicy without being fatty, it is cooked to order, and it is flattened out to fit the bun.

I did not have cheese or bacon today, because I wanted to taste the beef. It had a great flavor and was not covered in salt or “grillin’ spices” or weird sauces. You can get some crazy toppings (chili, fried egg) and that could be fun, but today I just wanted a pure burger.

I award this burger a score of 8 out of 10.

If there is a Jake’s near you then I suggest you visit.
